The other reasons to which I have alluded were the necessity of granting leave to two Officers of the Survey Branch on account of medical certificates representing that a holiday in England was necessary for them. Their periods of absence were:-

Another Officer (Mr. Darby) has recently

been granted 2 months' leave as he was in a very indifferent state of health and Mr. Rees has just been in hospital and will

be unfit for much outdoor work for a little time.

Meanwhile the congestion of survey work

has gone on increasing and I now consider it necessary that

two additional surveyors should be applied for in order to

deal with the arrears of work.
